Trump Rallygoers Suffer Strange Eye Injuries

This is a strange one. When I first heard about this incident, I thought something must have been in the air that bothered certain people—some airborne irritant of natural origin or maybe from a nearby manufacturing plant. Still, after two assassination attempts, you have to question what is really going on, especially after I heard some of the details.

Last week, at his rally in Tucson, Arizona, six people who were sitting behind Trump began to suffer from strange eye injuries after the rally. According to News 4 Tucson, one was nearly blind the following day.

One of the victims, Mayra Rodriguez, an anti-abortion activist, reported that her eyes started hurting after leaving the rally last Thursday.

“As soon as we left and stepped outside, my eyes were burning,” she said.

Rodriguez ignored the burning sensation, attributing it to bad allergies. Once she arrived home, it became clear she needed medical attention. Rodriguez went to the emergency room, where the medical professionals had a surprising assessment.

In an interview with N4T, she explained:

“The emergency room staff, from the triage nurse to the Physician’s Assistant (PA), asked are you sure you didn’t get sprayed with something? Your symptoms look like you got sprayed with something.”

The day after the rally, when the news station followed up with her, she reported that she was nearly blind and said, “It hurts a lot to open my eyes. I have this cold cloth I put on and take off constantly,” she said. “It’s horrible.”

Doctors ultimately could not determine the cause, but she slowly improved over the following days.

Rodriguez, who originally thought it might have been the result of allergies, changed her mind after visiting the ER. She has since learned that five other people in her section reported similar symptoms. Also, somehow, rallygoers who sat on the other side of Trump seemed to be fine, N4T reported.

A brother and sister who also experienced symptoms spoke to the news station.

“It kept getting worse and worse; my eyes were watering a lot, my nose started running, then I started feeling my face get really flushed, and my neck felt like it was on fire, and it just progressed from there,” the sister explained. Her brother  described the pain as “unbearable” and said his eyes “were red like hell.”

The Trump campaign informed the victims and News4 that it was investigating the incident. The Secret Service stated that it was not aware of the reported injuries but confirmed that there was no known threat to the former president at the rally.

I don’t believe that Trump was in any danger, but it does sound like either pepper or bear spray could have been used. If it was a spray such as that, the only possible reason had to be a deliberate attempt to antagonize and annoy Trump supporters. Also, one of those victimized was Mayra Rodriguez, who is an outspoken anti-abortion advocate. Was that just a coincidence?

Whatever happened seems to have been limited to a relatively small group of people, which indicates to me that they were targeted. Whether or not this was some pro-abortion activist or just another random moron, it needs to be investigated. People should not be able to smuggle those types of dangerous chemical sprays into presidential rallies.

Then again, protection details aren’t what they used to be.
