A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words And Sometimes Just One
By now, I’m sure most of you have heard the name Karen Bass. She is the mayor of what used to be Los Angeles, which now looks more like a war zone in many areas. Some would say that Bass had a lousy week, while others would more accurately describe it as a nightmare.
This nightmare was self-imposed, brought on by far-fetched liberal ideals that have no groundwork in reality. Thinking she knew better, Bass sliced $17.6 million off the LAFD budget. She then embarked on an ill-advised trip to Ghana even though she knew the Santa Ana winds were predicted to blow through the area.
Bass was out of the country as part of a U.S. delegation to Accra for the inauguration of Ghana President John Mahama. She also had a meeting scheduled with Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who’s making history as Ghana’s first female vice president, which I’m sure was more important to Bass than the inauguration or the winds of destruction forecast for LA.
Since arriving back in LA, Bass has done nothing to explain her position or help with a miserable situation. When asked direct questions, she defiantly stood totally silent, refusing to answer the reporter’s inquiries or even look at him. The video of that confrontation went viral and displayed Bass’s total lack of accountability.
Still, Bass wasn’t finished. In another photo that also went viral, Bass is seen grinning like a Cheshire cat with members of the command post for the Hurst fire, which is burning in the San Fernando Valley. In a post on X that accompanied the picture, Bass said this:
“At the Hurst Fire Command Post, I met Angelenos and business owners donating goods to help firefighters and those impacted by the fire. Los Angeles WILL get through this.”
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but only one is necessary for Bass’s photo op. Take your pick: incompetent, unqualified, unthinking, uncaring, inept, inconsiderate, unthinking, thoughtless, etc.
While the city is on fire, Bass poses for a picture that looks like it was for a corporate dinner or a high school reunion. She is a disgrace as a mayor and needs to be recalled along with the state’s buffoon governor Gavin Newsome. She gives every indication that she could care less about what is really happening and prefers instead to live in the alternate universe that exists in the minds of radical leftists.
Sadly, it often takes tragedy to expose incompetence, and for Bass and her office, the hits keep on coming. After the LAFD chief, Kristen Crowley went public with stories of the level of funding she’d received from the city, the word is that Bass was so angry she called Crowley to her office to fire her.
Before their meeting, Crowley was saying farewell to everyone because she had been informed that the primary purpose of the meeting was to terminate her employment, a source said, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
“When she was called into the meeting, it was with the sole purpose of firing her,” the source said. “However, something changed during the meeting.”
“Either Bass realized it would be a mistake to fire her and had a change of heart, or Crowley convinced her not to go through with it.”
Now, a memo on the city’s website that was dated November 18th shows that Crowley was extremely concerned about the budget cuts. The memo was addressed to the fire commissioners, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon. The board consists of five members appointed by Bass. In her memo, Crowley urged the commissioners to inform the mayor and the city council about the severity of the situation.
“In many ways, the current staffing, deployment model, and size of the LAFD have not changed since the 1960s.”
She highlighted the significant rise in emergency calls; given that staffing levels were below standards, it is unsurprising that response times have increased.
According to the Free Beacon:
“In 2022, Crowley said, 61 percent of the department’s firefighters failed to meet the 4-minute first response time, a national firefighting standard.”
“The National Fire Protection Association, meanwhile, recommends that cities like Los Angeles employ some 1.51 to 1.81 firefighters per 1,000 residents. But Los Angeles only staffs 0.91 firefighters per 1,000 people.”
So, what was the response by Bass’s office? They deleted the memo.
Bass continues to set the bar for competence at its lowest point. In a state where liberal catastrophes have become commonplace, Bass is emerging as one of the worst and people are paying for it by losing everything, they have including their lives.
