New York City is About to become the Site of a Battle for the Soul of the Democratic Party
It seems like yesterday that Bill Clinton was President, the Democrats had the support of labor unions and blue-collar workers, the so-called Reagan Democrats, and the party was actually winning elections. A lot has changed over the last 2 decades in America. The Reagan Democrats are now Trump Republicans, the left is consumed with absurd causes most people in this country don’t care about like climate change, and the Democratic party is an entity without a brand or a message.
This is why the coming Civil War in New York City within the Democratic Party over current Mayor Eric Adams’s decision to cooperate with President Trump on deportations isn’t just about the Empire State, this battle is going to be over the future of the party as a whole. Adams is an old-school Democrat, he’s not an elitist or someone on the left. The former cop rose from humble beginnings and worked his way up the ladder to become the Mayor of New York City. While I don’t agree with Adams on most issues, he represents the kind of Democrat who still believes in law and order.
When illegal immigrants overran New York City, the state’s budget was overwhelmed, the hospitals were over filled, and this presence of massive numbers of unvetteed individuals also contributed to an already high crime rate rising even more. Adams ran as a moderate focused on law and order in 2021, and when he assumed office in 2022, he won in significant part on cleaning up the out-of-control crime that plagued New York city and so many urban areas across the country. Adams was one of only a few prominent Democrats with the to speak out against the Biden regime’s reckless and dangerous open border policy. The mayor said that Biden had turned his back on New York City in 2023 after calling out the previous failed administration over illegal immigration before, and he didn’t mince words.
The disgusting and vindictive Biden administration retaliated quickly against Adams, first sending a broken and corrupt FBI to seize his phones, then indicting him later on sham charges that were shown to be politically motivated and ultimately dismissed. Adams is the mayor of New York because he ran for office and he was elected, his candidacy is Democracy at work. Yet, predictably, when Adams made clear he plans to cooperate with Trump and Tom Homan, Director of ICE, the left quickly came for him. Even now, with the pathetic charges against the mayor dropped, New York Governor Hochul has stated that she is thinking of removed Adams, and corrupt New York City Attorney General Letita James has also expressed support for Adams being forced out. This rhetoric is consistent with what the Left has become in America, nasty, intolerant, vindictive, and willing to do anything to remove people in power that these radicals oppose.
If the mayor of New York survives politically after cooperating with President Trump he will potentially pave the way for the Democratic party to move back to the middle. Adams’s cooperation with Trump set an important precedent for Democrats willing to work with Trump to get work done on behalf of the American people without facing a political backlash. If Adams is removed from power or he is destroyed politically, his failure will in many ways signal moderates have no place on the left today. The coming civil war in New York City is going to in many ways be a fight for the soul of the modern Democratic Party.
