The Democrats fight for the SALT Deduction Shows A Party of Elites

The Democratic party of the 1990s that represented working-class people is long gone. The moderate Democrats from the midwest such as Dick Gephardt who used to be leaders of a party that represented the middle class are not in positions of power anymore. Today politicians such as AOC and Bernie Sanders are the ones dictating the policies and agenda of the left. The Democratic party has become one of the out-of-touch elites that focuses on climate change more than inflation and taking care of illegal immigrants ahead of US citizens.

Despite the usual lies of the Democrats and their left-wing allies in the media pretending to be journalists, the Trump tax cut the President passed in his first term was for middle-class families and to help bring manufacturing back to the country, the bill actually made the top 1 percent pay a higher overall amount of the taxes collected by the Federal Government. While the left keeps talking about how Republicans want big tax cuts for the rich, the reality is the conservatives are the ones prioritizing the needs of the middle-class voters who voted overwhelmingly for Trump yet again in 2024. The President and MAGA have a firm grasp on the working class of this country nationwide, including in the key midwest swing states.

One issue that key Democrats such as Pelosi and Schumer have prioritized is trying to reinstitute the SALT deduction, which enables people to deduct state and local taxes against federal taxes owed. The left was upset about this change in the tax code in Trump’s original tax cut passed in his first term, and Democrats are fighting for this deduction again. There is no tax cut that benefits the rich more than the SALT deduction. Very few middle and working-class families are paying enough local, state, or federal taxes, for this proposal to meaningfully impact most people. The real beneficiaries of the SALT deduction were coastal elites making millions and paying millions in local and state taxes in states such as California and New York. Republicans are likely going to include a smaller SALT deduction in the final tax bill, but conservative won’t put the kind of large tax benefits for individuals in higher tax states that Democrats want.

The Democratic party is one of the coastal elites, the signature piece of legislation of the Biden administration, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, focused on climate change, an issue the middle and working class do not care about. The left also prioritizes illegal immigrants more than the citizens of the nation, the values of today’s Democratic party have not been aligned with the American people for some time. The reality is that while Obama and Pelosi like to simply blame Biden for the crushing 2024 defeat of the Democrats, these out-of-touch left-wing leaders are the ones who made the Democratic party one of the coastal elites that is focused on issues most middle-class families, including ones in the critical midwest swing states, simply do not like or respect.

President Trump recently enacted reciprocal tariffs to help bring manufacturing jobs back to the US over the long term, and MAGA is also focused on removing taxes on tips to help middle and working-class people as well. Trump received nearly 74 million votes in 2020, and the President got nearly 77 million votes in 2024, both records for Republican candidates. President Trump continues to expand MAGA’s working coalition, while the Democrats focus on issues such as climate change and constituents such as illegal immigrants keep alienating the party from the middle class of the country. Failed and corrupt former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once stated that a budget is a statement of values, the priorities of a Democratic party fighting for tax cuts for elites in states such as California and New York instead of focusing on the middle class or tax cuts for wealthy individuals that will actually help the eocnomy epitomizes much of what is wrong with the left today.
