This Fat Lady Will Never Sing

In addition to outright lying, the left is skilled at pushing buttons and exaggerating minor issues to further their agendas. The key to understanding their tactics requires learning to read between the lines of their verbal and written communication and recognizing their deceptive strategies in other forms.

This week, liberals installed a twelve-foot bronze statue of an overweight black woman in Times Square. The monstrosity was placed between the statues of two men.

One of the notable figures is Father Francis Duffy, a World War I hero who became the most highly decorated cleric in the history of the U.S. Army for his exceptional service during combat on the Western Front in France. Duffy was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his dedication to the United States, which included caring for wounded and dying soldiers.

Another significant individual is George C. Cohan, who is celebrated as a Broadway pioneer and America’s first show business superstar. According to NPR, Cohan should be remembered as the man who “created Broadway.” In other words, without Cohan’s contributions in the early 20th century, Times Square as we know it might not exist today.

Knowing the accomplishments of both men, the obvious question is, why would someone place a statue of an overweight black woman between them? Especially, when she is striking a pose that looks like she is pissed about a McDonalds order and is waiting on the manager to straighten it out.

According to the Times Square Arts Association, the bronze statue, created by Thomas J. Price, provided this explanation on its website.

“Installed at ground level on a wide low base, the work invites engagement with the hundreds of thousands of people who traverse the plazas each day, the woman in โ€œGrounded in the Starsโ€ cuts a stark contrast to the pedestaled permanent monuments, both white, both men, which bookend Duffy Square, while embodying a quiet gravity and grandeur.โ€

Priceโ€™s website describes the fiasco in similar, but slightly more detailed terms.

Grounded in the Stars, Times Square Arts, NYC

April 29 – June 17, 2025

โ€œTimes Square Arts is pleased to present Grounded in the Stars, a 12-foot-tall figurative bronze sculpture by artist Thomas J. Price, whose multidisciplinary practice confronts preconceived notions of identity and representation. With Grounded in the Stars, Price reimagines both the monument and monumentality in Times Square, one of the worldโ€™s most iconic public spaces.

A fictionalized character constructed from images, observations, and open calls spanning between Los Angeles and London, the young woman depicted in Grounded in the Stars carries familiar qualities, from her stance and countenance to her everyday clothing. In her depiction, one recognizes a shared humanity, yet the contrapposto pose of her body and the ease of her stance is a subtle nod to Michelangeloโ€™s David. Through scale, materiality, and posture, Grounded in the Starsdisrupts traditional ideas around what defines a triumphant figure and challenges who should be rendered immortal through monumentalization.

Installed at ground level on a wide low base, the work invites engagement with the hundreds of thousands of people who traverse the plazas each day, the woman in Grounded in the Stars cuts a stark contrast to the pedestaled permanent monuments โ€” both white, both men โ€” which bookend Duffy Square, while embodying a quiet gravity and grandeur.

In a culture that increasingly encourages a faster pace, Grounded in the Stars is an introspective meditation on humanity. Priceโ€™s work offers viewers a unique opportunity to experience Times Square in a new light and share in a moment of personal reflection and empathy amidst the hyperactivity of the district.โ€

Right. I have no idea what Price was smoking, but this thing cannot be compared to Michelangeloโ€™s David in any way, shape, or form. What a perfect example of eloquent gibberish. This statue makes only one statement, and that is: Let me see how many white people we can piss off.

The left is trying to stir the pot for no other reason than thatโ€™s what they love doing. Isnโ€™t it convenient that the group that hates defining sexes unless it benefits their cause, made it a point to place a black woman between two white men?

Letโ€™s not forget that liberals in New York City are the ones who removed Thomas Jeffersonโ€™s statue from City Hall and Teddy Rooseveltโ€™s statue from the American Museum of Natural History.

So, who can we blame for this new catastrophe? According to the Times Square website:

“Support for Grounded in the Stars is provided in part by the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Foundation, Morgan Stanley, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and additional in-kind support from the Times Square Edition Hotel.”

The good news is that every dark cloud has a silver liningโ€”even ones twelve feet high that land in Times Square. In this case, the good news is that the cloud disperses on June 17th.
