Time For Democrats To Admit Their Rhetoric Fuels Violence

Just four days ago, I wrote a column titled โ€œLike Award Shows, The WHCA Dinner Has Been Destroyed By Leftist Politics.โ€ In that column, I wrote about the inflammatory rhetoric that Democrats and liberals were using leading up to the WHCA Dinner.

The press is obsessed with President Trump to the point that they throw terms around, such as planning a โ€œdirect and forceful confrontationโ€ with him at the dinner.

A letter was sent to the White House, which in part read:

โ€œWe understand that some journalists plan to wear pocket handkerchiefs or lapel pins with the words of the First Amendment. And continuing in that spirit, we believe the White House Correspondents Association should take stronger action by issuing, from the podium, a forceful defense of freedom of the press and condemnation of those who threaten that freedom, followed by a standing toast to the First Amendment and a pledge to continue upholding such a critical cornerstone of our democracy. Speak forcefully, in front of the man who seeks to undermine our countryโ€™s long tradition of an independent, strong, and free press.โ€

โ€œWe also urge the WHCA to reaffirm, without equivocation, that freedom of the press is not a partisan issue and that the Association will not normalize this behavior but instead fight back against any officeholder who has waged systematic war against the journalists whose work the dinner celebrates.โ€

The signatories include journalism groups such as the Society of Professional Journalists, the Coalition for Women in Journalism, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, along with dozens of individual reporters, including old haters, Dan Rather and Sam Donaldson.

It was clear that this would be an evening of accusations and ridicule against President Trump.

My last paragraph of that column stated:

โ€œThis type of rhetoric is dangerous; Democrats and liberals know that, but still they persist. Using terms like having a โ€œdirect and forcefulโ€ confrontation against the President of the United States sounds a lot like a threat to me, and I pray the Secret Service sees it the same way.โ€

โ€œMy advice to President Trump is to skip this circus. Stay safe and let these fools cry into their First Amendment hankies.โ€

The left has to learn that their words and seething hatred toward President Trump are not contained in a vacuum. There are unstable people who are triggered by their rhetoric and feel empowered and even justified to attempt an assassination.

Democrats and liberals can no longer shrug their shoulders and pretend they are blameless. They are setting a tone of violence that can erupt at any time.

Last night, under the tense atmosphere of confrontation, an unstable lunatic named Cole Allen rushed towards the eventโ€™s indoor security screening area just after 8:30 p.m., armed with a shotgun, handgun, and several knives.

A law enforcement officer was shot, with the bullet hitting his bulletproof vest.

DC Police Chief Jeffrey Carrol stated:

โ€œHe was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives as he ran into that checkpoint. At this point, it does appear he is a lone actor, a lone gunman; there does not appear to be any sort of danger to the public.โ€

The police chief told a New York Post reporter that Allen apparently got into the hotel by paying for a room.

Another witness told The Post that the suspect appeared to come from a makeshift room near the entrance, where bar carts were stored, and there was no security at the time.

Helen Mabus, a volunteer working at the event, stated, โ€œHe was in that room, he grabbed it out of a bag or something.โ€ Referencing the gun, she added that the weapon โ€œwas longโ€ and โ€œdidnโ€™t look like a typical gun.โ€

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene inside the venue, reporting that they believe four to eight shots were fired.

In a hastily called press conference, Trump described the scene and praised the Secret Service and DC police.

โ€œI heard a noise and thought it was a tray going down. We heard that noise, and it was either a tray or a bullet. I was hoping it was a tray.โ€

Trump commended Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondentsโ€™ Association and a CBS News reporter, for her leadership during their time on stage, leading the briefing room to burst into applause.

After the dust settled, Trump revealed that he was hoping to stay.

โ€œI fought like hell to stay, they said, โ€˜Please, sir,โ€™ because they didnโ€™t know โ€ฆ there was a lot of action going on, and they didnโ€™t know.โ€

Trump added that Allen โ€œwas fast โ€” he was running full blastโ€ and โ€œcharged from 50 yards away.โ€

Despite what had happened shortly before, the mood in the briefing room was fairly upbeat because no one was seriously injured or killed. That doesnโ€™t change the fact that this type of thing is going to continue if Democrats and the radicals on the left donโ€™t change their tune.

This is now the third assassination attempt on President Trumpโ€™s life in less than two years, and just seven months have passed since Charlie Kirk was murdered. The leftโ€™s TDS is out of control, and their misunderstanding and hatred for all things MAGA is totally irrational.

Because of their shift to the extreme left, no rational discourse is possible with Democrats. Any change in their rhetoric must originate within their own party and occur immediately if their true intentions are to maintain peace.

Otherwise, if they continue to set the stage for violence, we will know that their motives remain nefarious, and tragedy may be unavoidable.
