Sleazy Media Tricks That Discourage Republicans From Voting
The corporate media, as expected, is going above and beyond to try to depress Republican turnout for the midterm elections.
Yes, Republicans in Congress have done a lousy job the past two years looking out for their voters’ best interests.
But the alternative is 100 times worse.
I’m not a coach, and I’m an expert at giving pep talks, so all I can do is draw on my own personal experience working corporate media.
Twenty years ago this month I worked for a daily newspaper in South Florida. The 2006 mid-terms were coming up, and my former colleagues and I were discussing news coverage at our daily staff meeting.
One reporter wanted to do a story about all of the Democrats registering to vote or vote early.
IN THE NEWS: When Liberals Suddenly Start Quoting Jesus
My then-editor shot the story down flat.
“If we run that story then Republicans will see it, and they’ll be more motivated to go out and register to vote or vote early too, and I don’t want that,” the editor said.
He said it, and I’ll swear to it on a stack of Bibles.
This editor frequently compared Republicans to Adolf Hitler….behind closed doors. He knew better than to say that stuff in public. He certainly wasn’t the only editor I had who behaved like that or thought like that.
IN THE NEWS: Local Democrats Beg For My Vote, And They’re Getting NASTY
My point is that corporate media folks do everything they can to depress Republican turnout on Election Day, and they either report news that might make Republicans less motivated to vote or they refuse to report news that might make Republicans more motivated to vote.
And then the media use polls that either oversample Democrats or poll people who aren’t likely voters to accomplish the same goals.
The example I cited above is one example among many that I could cite of this trend.
Don’t let any of that discourage you from voting.
