School Textbook Publisher Pearson Introduces CRT

The Heritage Foundation this week warned lawmakers nationwide that education textbook Publisher Pearson plans to introduce Critical Race Theory (CRT) and gender-related content to American school children.

Pearson is based in Britain and contracts with at least 24 states and the U.S. government. The company is also the largest publisher of U.S. college textbooks. Also, Pearson owns one of the largest virtual charter school networks in the United States.

“Pearson is a giant in the education publishing industry and now holds a contract with the federal office that manages hiring and assessing federal employees,” said Heritage Senior Research Fellow Jonathan Butcher.

“The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has already adopted a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) statement and is operating under President Joe Biden’s executive orders from 2021 that mandated the adoption of radical racial and gender policies throughout the federal government. This makes Pearson’s commitment to the woke orthodoxy consistent with the current White House’s commitment to critical theories—potentially placing it in conflict with state and federal civil rights laws.”

Heritage said lawmakers in states that contract with Pearson must hold hearings and alert parents. Members of Congress, meanwhile, must investigate the materials that Pearson will produce for the federal workforce.

“Pearson is free to produce the material that it chooses, even to embed the discriminatory ideas of anti-racism into all its content — but taxpayers should not have to pay for content that is based on woke orthodoxy,” Butcher wrote.

CRT embraces the concept that all American institutions are systemically racist. Whites are supposedly oppressors. Blacks are supposedly victims.

Parents nationwide can now monitor whether college professors try to indoctrinate their child into CRT. That resource, criticalrace.org, is two years old.

As reported in April, lawmakers in 49 of the 50 states introduced nearly 600 measures that forbid educators from teaching CRT. Legislators filed these anti-CRT bills even in predominantly Democrat-controlled states, including California.

Nationwide, exactly 241 of the nearly 600 measures passed.
