The unnecessary disavowal of Project 2025

In a shocking move this morning, President Trump disavowed the presidential personnel project group Project 2025 on his Truth Social account.

I have been an ardent defender of President Trump over the past 9 years, but his disavowal of Project 2025 is one of his most disappointing decisions to-date.

For those who don’t know, Project 2025 is an initiative started by several former Trump staffers from the 1st presidential administration—Paul Dans, Spencer Chretien, and others. In essence, Project 2025’s goal is to staff the next Trump administration with authentic conservatives and to implement conservative policy during the next presidential administration.

Sadly, Trump’s 1st presidential administration was marred with terrible personnel choices. Establishment figures (“RINOs”) such as Mike Pompeo, Nikki Haley, John Bolton, and others steered the Trump admin away from “America First” policies between 2017 and 2019. At this rate, we can expect more of the same of Trump’s terrible personnel decisions in his next term.

Trump’s Truth Social post about Project 2025 is the latest example of Trump’s terrible personnel decisions. For instance, many of Trump’s top advisors for his 2024 presidential campaign (e.g. Susie Wiles, Jason Miller, Chris LaCivita, etc) are Establishment-leaning Republicans who do not align with the “America First” agenda.

Back in May 2023, I wrote an article here on RVIVR that explained Project 2025’s purpose and the fantastic work that this group is doing. So, make sure to check out that article to learn more about the specifics of Project 2025.

Here is also a fitting description of Project 2025 from its website:

This is the goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. The project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative administration: a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a 180-day playbook.

The project is the effort of a broad coalition of conservative organizations that have come together to ensure a successful administration begins in January 2025. With the right conservative policy recommendations and properly vetted and trained personnel to implement them, we will take back our government.

Project 2025 was going to play a key role in the success of the 2nd Trump administration, but Trump’s Truth Social post exposed the unfortunate reality of Trump’s 2nd presidential term. The reality is that Trump is only going to allow Establishment Republicans to run his second term. In fact, Trump recently admitted that the infamous RINO Nikki Haley is going to have a spot in his next admin.

Certainly, this recent development shows that the GOP Establishment is boxing out “America First” officials (i.e. Project 2025) and figures from the 2nd Trump administration.

In 2016, Donald Trump ran in the Republican presidential primary against the entrenched GOP Establishment. Now in 2024, the Republican establishment has adapted itself and increasingly co-opting Trump’s potential 2nd administration. That’s why Trump now admits to supporting GOP Establishment talking points—such as mass legal immigration, more corporate tax cuts, more H-1B visas, saber-rattling with Iran, and other similar positions. In contrast, the Donald Trump of 2015/2016 supported mass deportations, ending America’s disastrous foreign wars, reducing the H-1B visa program, and fixing America’s terrible free-trade deals.

Trump’s disavowal of Project 2025 is a betrayal of the “America First” patriots who supported in 2015 and 2016. Let’s hope that Trump changes his tune on this topic before the November election rolls around. We need every loyal patriot in order to win the presidential election this fall.
