Captain America And Why Everything Woke Turns To Sh*+
A new Captain America movie is out, and when I saw Harrison Ford put out a video last fall trashing Donald Trump, I knew that I would not pay money to see him in it.
In the weeks leading up to the movie’s release, the star of the film, Anthony Mackie, who plays the new Captain America, publicly said this: “Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations,” Mackie said.

“It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity, someone who is trustworthy and dependable.”
Well, I thought to myself, if I was slightly inclined to ignore Ford’s remarks and see the film, regardless, then Mackie fortified my original position.
I stated my views on a few of the Internet forums I occasionally visit that cater to guys like me, who are more likely to attend a Comic-Con than a concert or a professional sporting event. I was immediately lectured to and told that comic books have always been “woke” and that if I didn’t understand that then I don’t understand comic books in general.
Granted, in the 1960s, the mutants in the X-Men series were a metaphor for African Americans during the Civil Rights movement. Wonder Woman was feminist literature.
Which is all fine, but what little “wokeness” existed was never too overt. When I was a kid, the biggest controversy in comics was in Batman when, in a cliffhanger ending, the Joker beat Robin with a crowbar.

DC Comics asked readers to call a 1-900 number to vote on whether the next issue should start with the Joker finishing off Robin for good (and, in case you’re curious, Robin bit the dust).
That’s hardly woke.
There was no trace of wokeness back then, as far as I remember.
Then about 15 years ago it seems that leftists took over a lot of the comic book industry, especially at DC Comics.
In one issue, Superman renounced his American citizenship.
In another series of issues, Superman and Lois Lane had a son, and that son, Jonathan Kent, who inherited his father’s superpowers, grew up and became the new Superman. He declared that he was bisexual and took up a relationship with another man.
As you might imagine, sales tanked, and DC ended up having to pull the plug on that storyline. The comic book industry doesn’t understand its own demographic.
So, as I argued to these dorks on those online forums, yes, comic books have a history of sometimes going woke, but almost every time they do, sales plummet.

“Captain America: Brave New World” actually made a lot of money, about $100 million, during its opening weekend. But the following week its box office receipts fell 68%. That’s extremely unusual for a Marvel film.
I predicted that the new Captain America movie would suffer at the box office, and it did.
During the past decade, a lot of these Marvel fans used to pay to watch these films two or three times during their theatrical runs. With inflation (caused by woke liberal Democrats), they don’t have the money to do that anymore. And, even if they did, the people behind these movies have alienated half of America with their stupid political remarks.
Several of the stars of the other Marvel movies gathered together to endorse Kamala Harris for president last year.
It’s little wonder these movies make less money than they used to. I am sorry, however, for all of the hard-working people who work at or manage movie theaters, not to mention the comic bookstore owners, and all of the business that they have lost or are still about to lose.
Maybe it’s time for them to get off the sinking ship?
Go woke, go broke.
