The America First Standard #4: DOGE Bait-and-switch
What is a “bait and switch”? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a “bait and switch” refers to a “the ploy of offering a person something desirable to gain favor (such as political support) then thwarting expectations with something less desirable”.
Currently, America’s political right wing is undergoing a political bait-and-switch.
During the course of the 2024 presidential campaign, the Trump campaign and the Republican party promised voters to enact mass deportations in the United States. The live coverage of the 2024 RNC showed “mass deportations” signs, Border Czar Tom Homan went on television telling everyone that ICE would start mass deportations on Day 1.
As discussed in my previous article in the America First Standard series (#4), the American people did not get the mass deportations that we were promised. The first few weeks of the Trump administration saw fairly low deportations and ICE arrest numbers.
Even worse, ICE’s deportation numbers have cratered in recent days. ICE is now not even cracking over 700 deportations per day. ICE’s Twitter/X account has stopped publishing daily deporation numbers to hide.
If the Trump administration were to deport only 700 illegal aliens every day for the next 4 years, then ICE is on pace to only remove 1 million illegal aliens over four years. Contrast that low number of deportations to the roughly 10 million illegal aliens who arrived under the Biden administration.
At this current rate, the 2nd Trump administration will deport millions of less illegal aliens than the 1st & 2nd Obama administrations and Biden admin. Deporting less illegal aliens than the Obama and Biden admin would be a major catastrophe for the 2nd Trump administration.
The MAGA movement provided President Trump with a clear mandate to deport the tens of millions of illegal aliens in our country. Yet, we are still being sold short by the GOP when it comes to the issue of mass immigration.
Now, the presidential administration knows that it is absolutely floundering when it comes to the promise of mass deportations. Here is where the political “bait-and-switch” comes in.
The Trump campaign promised mass deportations–which was the bait for people to get people to vote in the 2024 election. But now, the administration is offering a mediocre consolation prize–“the switch”. The switch in this scenario is DOGE: the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE).
On Inauguration Day, President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating the Department of Government Efficiencyย (DOGE). According to the executive order, DOGE is a temporary government organization that will seek to modernize and improve the efficiency of the US Federal government.
Here is a brief description of DOGE from the White House website:
“… The USDS Administrator shall commence a Software Modernization Initiative to improve the quality and efficiency of government-wide software, network infrastructure, and information technology (IT) systems.ย Among other things, the USDS Administrator shall work with Agency Heads to promote inter-operability between agency networks and systems, ensure data integrity, and facilitate responsible data collection and synchronization.“
Over the past few weeks, Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his 100 DOGE staffers have apparently found billions of wasted and misspent Federal spending. Now, these savings aren’t bad things in and of themselves. However, the American people did not elect Donald Trump for the sake of balancing the Federal budget. We could have elected Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan if that’s what we wanted.
The MAGA movement elected Donald Trump to carry out mass deportations. Cutting the Federal deficit won’t save our country when millions of illegal aliens have invaded our country.
The DOGE “bait and switch” won’t cut it. Don’t fall for this bait-and-switch when Republican politicians come around in 2026 midterms asking for your vote again.
