The Coming Disaster In Texas

Gina Hinojosa wants to raid Texasโ€™ rainy day fund to send every household a $1,500 check, costing taxpayers roughly $17 billion. Thatโ€™s $17 billion out of the stateโ€™s reserves for a one-time payment. What happens when that money is gone?

She wants corporations to pay their โ€œfair share,โ€ which sounds wonderful until those corporations decide Florida and other business-friendly Republican states offer a better place to operate. I fear weโ€™ll slowly watch the Texas Miracle become the Texas Disaster. Texas didnโ€™t become an economic powerhouse by punishing the businesses that create jobs and invest in our communities.

Then thereโ€™s education. According to the Texas Education Agency, public schools spent approximately $105 BILLION during the 2024โ€“25 school year. Yet weโ€™re constantly told the problem is a lack of funding. Perhaps we should start addressing administrative bloat, extravagant campuses that resemble the Taj Mahal, and how much money actually makes it into the classroom. At some point, the conversation needs to shift from spending more money to spending it responsibly. Itโ€™s called prioritization.

Hinojosaโ€™s record on property tax relief is another concern. I disagree with her votes on important property tax measures, particularly when homeowners desperately need relief. Her legislative record on child protection and gender-related legislation also gives me little confidence that weโ€™ll see common-sense policies on those issues.

Iโ€™m a Republican because I believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberty, and creating an environment where businesses and families can prosper. Government cannot tax and spend its way into solving every problem.

Weโ€™re planning to re-list and sell our house as soon as possible and head back to the great state of Florida. Florida remains a Republican stronghold with a business-friendly environment and an approach to government that aligns much more closely with my beliefs. I have no desire to watch Texas abandon the principles that made it successful.

And to the growing crowd of Democratic Socialists, I genuinely encourage you to spend some time in a country that has actually experienced socialism. Itโ€™s easy to romanticize these ideas from the comfort of the United States. Living under them is an entirely different experience. Ask me how I know – real life experience.

George Orwell said it best in Animal Farm:

โ€œAll animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.โ€

Funny how that always seems to be the end result.

I never thought Iโ€™d be looking forward to leaving Texas this fast, but here we are.
